  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Practice Gratitude for Earth
Kathleen Dean Moore says that a sense of gratitude leads to a sense of moral obligation. Do you agree? How can we cultivate a sense of gratitude as individuals, and as a society?

I've learned that engaging with the earth is such an important part of practicing gratitude for the earth. I learned over the years how hard it can be to prioritize being outdoors and slowing down to be grateful for my environment. I've written a lot of coursework on the importance of nature therapy and I'm learning to practice what I preach more by prioritizing an interconnected engagement with the earth every day whether it is through meditating on the grass, grounding barefoot, or just pausing to watch my surroundings.

I encourage everyone to learn more about food apartheid and food sovereignty even if it is not one of your one-time actions. It is also so important we encourage others to use  "food apartheid" as a replacement for “food desert” since using "food dessert' is misleading from the actual reasons and causes of why so many communities, especially POC communities, lack access to healthy food.
