Emily's actions
Health
Practice Loving-Kindness Meditation
I will spend 5 minutes practicing Loving-Kindness Meditation to nurture love and compassion for myself and others.
Health
Healthy Sleep
Effectively working for sustainability requires self care! I will commit to getting 30 more minute(s) of sleep each night to achieve at least 7 hours per night.
Community
Help Others
I will offer to help 1 person(s) who are in need each day.
Community
Engage In Active Listening
I will practice actively listening to a friend, family member, co-worker, acquaintance, or someone who I may disagree with in at least 10 conversations.
Community
Research Restorative Justice
I will spend 5 minutes learning about restorative justice and conflict resolution opportunities in my own community or state.
Nature
Enjoy the Sunrise/Sunset
I will enjoy the sunrise and/or sunset each day.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Cheap, single-use items and disposable packaging end up blowing around as litter more often in poor and POC-majority neighborhoods. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Waste
Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will learn about sustainable fashion and begin trying to practice it in my own life.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 60 minute(s) each day.
Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 20 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside.
Health
Joyful Movement
I will spend 30 minutes doing an activity where I'm both moving my body and enjoying myself.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Reduce Single-Use DisposablesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted instead?
Emily Pineo 4/18/2022 12:42 PMI use reusable containers all the time (water bottle, food containers, etc.), but this is one I always struggle with day-to-day because occasionally there's a day when I just want to go buy take-out from a place that doesn't offer using a reusable container. It's a balance. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Spend Time OutsideRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Emily Pineo 4/18/2022 12:40 PMI may be overdoing this one based on how many sunburns I have gotten this semester. :P-
Lindsey Lyons 4/19/2022 7:45 AMSummer of sunscreen!

REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Enjoy the Sunrise/SunsetFather Thomas Berry says, "... our primary purpose is celebration. Celebration of the dawn and the sunset and the different seasons of the year is a religious ritual, a way in which humans can establish their integral relationship with the universe, with the planet Earth." What is your response to Berry's assertion?
Emily Pineo 4/18/2022 12:40 PMI also woke up in the middle of the night last night and spent a few minutes appreciating the moon. I think it was a full moon, or at least it looked like one. So beautiful :) -
Emily Pineo 4/18/2022 12:38 PMThis whole challenge went so fast, I want it to last longer! I don't feel like I've created new habits yet. I'll have to keep going afterward. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth HappinessHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
Emily Pineo 4/07/2022 9:53 AMPracticing gratitude helps me remember how much all the little things day-to-day that contribute to my overall happiness (eating a really good orange literally puts me in such a good mood all day). -
