Aaron Schlossman 4/11/2022 5:33 AMBiked to Broad Street Market and got ingredients for some vegan chili, among other produce to make sides for the rest of this week’s meals. Then, I made my own vegetable stock from veggies scraps before I put them in compost. This part was especially cool because boiling the vegetable scraps helped them compost even faster. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Plant an Herb GardenConsider the ways you can garden: a plot of land? a patio container? hanging basket? windowsill gardens? What would work best for your living situation and lifestyle?
Aaron Schlossman 4/07/2022 11:12 AMI have a windowsill garden (which sadly gets poor sunlight) and a backyard with planters that my landlords are sharing with me. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Choose Organic IngredientsMany people say that “you can’t feed the world with just organic food.” How would you respond to that statement?
Aaron Schlossman 4/07/2022 11:10 AMMy understanding is that we have more than enough farmland to feed the world if the global population had a vegan majority. Globally, feeding animals for produce and meat is the largest single category that crops go to. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Buy From a Farmers MarketWhat is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?
Aaron Schlossman 4/04/2022 8:39 AMI am currently making a concerted effort to eliminate meat products from my diet. I am continuing with animal produce at this time so that I can meet my dietary needs. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go by BikeHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience differ while walking, riding transit, biking, or driving?
Aaron Schlossman 4/01/2022 6:39 AMTo be honest, I think that my longer commute has mixed positive and negative effects on my community engagement. It has created some really cool discussions at work and connected me with coworkers I would not otherwise connect with. But it also severely limits my leisure time, which I would otherwise use engaging community in other ways. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Aaron Schlossman 4/01/2022 5:37 AMDay 1 biking to work. 48F felt like 44F. I just tuned my bike and it feels AMAZING again. I forgot what I was missing out on. Still looking for commuting buddies between Mechanicsburg and work. HMU! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Aaron Schlossman 4/01/2022 5:35 AMMeat tends to be expensive, and people in wealthier countries have access to a) more personal wealth and b) institutions that market these products more aggressively to them. Meat is more energy, emissions, land, and water intensive. Raising cattle is the #1 contributing factor to world-wide deforestation because it is a lucrative industry that is globally accessible. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth HappinessHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
Aaron Schlossman 4/01/2022 5:20 AMI feel gratitude for my ability to enjoy my body doing physical activity, breath clean air, and participate in supportive communities. Having access to each of these things makes me feel empowered and hopeful as I invest my energy in projects I care about - especially in the face of anxiety and uncertainty about the future. -
Aaron Schlossman 3/31/2022 11:20 AMI'm planning on biking to work a couple of times per week. Anybody want to join?
