Jeni 's actions
Waste
Find Local Recycling Depots
I will find out where to recycle the recyclable items that I can't put in recycling dumpsters or my curbside bin.
Water
Use Reusable Bottles
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Energy
Adjust the Thermostat
I will adjust my thermostat down 2 degrees from usual when I use the heat, and up 2 degrees when I use air conditioning.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Waste
Go Paperless
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by 0.11lbs (0.05kg) a day or 3.3lbs (1.6kg) a month by opting into paperless billing, ending unwanted subscriptions and opting out of junk mail.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 20 minute(s) each day.
Water
Brush My Teeth Without Running Water
I will save up to 8 gallons (30 L) of water each day by turning it off while brushing my teeth.
Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 10 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside.
Food
Plant an Herb Garden
I will plant an herb garden in my home, workplace, or dorm room.
Energy
Switch to Cold Water
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 133 lbs of CO2 a month and 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Water
Conserve Toilet Water
I will save up to 12 gallons (45 L) of water a day by flushing only when necessary.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Health
Go get a check up
I will make an appointment for my annual physical.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Plant an Herb GardenConsider the ways you can garden: a plot of land? a patio container? hanging basket? windowsill gardens? What would work best for your living situation and lifestyle?
Jeni Steigleman 4/20/2022 5:15 AMWe make a garden at our home every year. Last year we made it bigger. Love fresh veggies straight from your backyard! -

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Jeni Steigleman 4/19/2022 5:14 AMTake walks outside or do outdoor activities and involve your family and friends. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Adjust the ThermostatYour utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?
Jeni Steigleman 4/19/2022 5:12 AMKeep as many lights and electronics turned off that you can while not in use. Only turn on other electrical items when needed. Example: wax melts, night lights, etc. Do laundry after 6pm.-
Kevin Young 4/19/2022 6:54 AMNight lights are a good idea, we installed a bunch in our house and found that when we need something quick in a room we no longer have to turn on the lights. The motion detector versions were good.
