Meet My Local Farmers
I will visit my nearest farm to find out who produces my food, and will learn about the quality of life of those around the world who produce my food in order to make better choices when I shop.
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 2 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 5 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Waste
RESEARCH LOCAL WASTE SITES
I will spend 45 minutes finding out where landfills and/or toxic waste sites are situated in my region and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Waste
Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will learn about sustainable fashion and begin trying to practice it in my own life.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Simplicity
Support a Sharing Economy
I will create or support a sharing economy with family, friends, neighbors or classmates.
Simplicity
Eat Mindfully
I will eat all of my meals without distractions, e.g., phone, computer, TV, or newspaper.
Simplicity
Meditate
I will meditate or create a moment of silence for 45 minute(s) each day to reflect on things important to me.

Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Simplicity
Needs Vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Simplicity
Go For A Daily Walk Outside
I will take a walk outside for 30 minutes each day.
Simplicity
Limit Social Media
I will limit my social media use to once each day reducing my daily use by 180 minute(s)

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Limit Social MediaSocial media can keep us connected with loved ones, make us laugh, and help us to learn new things. It can also create echo chambers and take more time than we realize or intend to give. After completing this action for a few days, how do you feel? What do you notice?
Genesis Whitlock 4/06/2022 7:44 AMi feel more connected to myself and more engaged with content before me because I am not thinking about as much the validation associated with what I observe. The enjoyment comes from within! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Genesis Whitlock 4/06/2022 6:17 AMWater bottles are expensive and they can be difficult to keep track of throughout the day -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Support a Sharing EconomyWhat are some of the barriers to sharing economies? What is your plan for supporting or creating one in your community?
Genesis Whitlock 4/06/2022 6:06 AMLack of awareness of a sharing economy, but other than that there are not many limits for me. I want to utilize more resources from the Carlisle Tool Library and share how this has impacted me with my community -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Needs Vs. WantsHow is creativity a necessary ingredient for practicing simplicity?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Genesis Whitlock 4/06/2022 5:52 AMI try to reduce my consumption in general by asking friends for things I need instead of buying new. If i do have to but new I make sure to buy something that can last me a longer time -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Genesis Whitlock 4/06/2022 5:51 AMI never leave the house with this fanny pack I thrifted and it has been really helpful because I find myself hardly every needing a bag and it is so much easier when I am riding a bike. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Compost Food WasteNew to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?
Genesis Whitlock 4/06/2022 5:49 AMComposting food has encouraged me to eat more whole foods since I don't know if processed food breaks down as much.
