Audrey's actions
Community
Express My Support
I will find out who in my state makes decisions that impact the environment and express my support for more environmental actions.
Food
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and meat from a local farmers market or food co-op.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 3 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Simplicity
De-Clutter My Home or Dorm Room
I will de-clutter, clean, and donate or recycle unneeded items in my home or dorm room.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Health
Go get a check up
I will make an appointment for my annual physical.
Food
Plant an Herb Garden
I will plant an herb garden in my home, workplace, or dorm room.
Waste
Prevent Recycling Contamination
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 30 minutes researching which materials are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community and recycle only those items.
Waste
Find Local Recycling Depots
I will find out where to recycle the recyclable items that I can't put in recycling dumpsters or my curbside bin.
Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need.
Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 45 minute(s) each day.
Energy
Adjust the Thermostat
I will adjust my thermostat down 2 degrees from usual when I use the heat, and up 2 degrees when I use air conditioning.
Nature
Join An Outdoor Project
I will join an outdoor restoration project in my community while observing best practices in my region for not spreading COVID-19.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Audrey Wronski 4/01/2022 7:02 PMSo far so good! I need to find a farmers market that is open more days than Wednesday so I can buy local more often. Any suggestions? -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
Audrey Wronski 4/01/2022 7:29 AMA big thing that is impacting water is what we are putting in the drain, in our treatment plants etc. I try to reduce and reuse water at home where possible, but I can probably do more than I am. I am guilty of taking longish showers- so I am trying to cut back on that. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity De-Clutter My Home or Dorm RoomHow can you prevent yourself from accumulating more unnecessary things in the future?
Audrey Wronski 4/01/2022 7:24 AMThe biggest thing I need to do is buy less! This year I've started giving away random objects that I find in my home that I don't need to my students. They find them interesting and serve as "weird and random prizes" for games and challenges in my class. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth HappinessHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
Audrey Wronski 4/01/2022 6:56 AMIt is so easy to get down on the state of our world right now. For me, this practice will help me look for where people are doing good. Last year I wrote my gratitude, and this year I will send notes of thanks or praise. This is especially great as a teacher- it will help me strengthen relationships with other teachers, students, or whoever I am reaching out to. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Audrey Wronski 4/01/2022 6:53 AMI teach my students all about climate science and every time I teach the unit, I stop eating meat for a while. For me- meat has become just a habit. When I don't eat it I don't tend to miss it too much. I want to reduce my meat consumption further by trying to be completely vegetarian for the challenge. When teach about the impacts of agriculture on our atmosphere and water resources, I always feel like I need to do more- and this is something I can definitely do -
Audrey Wronski 3/31/2022 4:12 PMI’m trying to think about the holistic approach to sustainability. I have many environmental goals, but this year I have a lot more wellness related goals as well. Can’t wait to get going!
