So far so good! I need to find a farmers market that is open more days than Wednesday so I can buy local more often.  Any suggestions?
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water 5-Minute Showers
Name some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?

A big thing that is impacting water is what we are putting in the drain, in our treatment plants etc.  I try to reduce and reuse water at home where possible, but I can probably do more than I am.  I am guilty of taking longish showers- so I am trying to cut back on that.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Simplicity De-Clutter My Home or Dorm Room
How can you prevent yourself from accumulating more unnecessary things in the future?

The biggest thing I need to do is buy less!  This year I've started giving away random objects that I find in my home that I don't need to my students.  They find them interesting and serve as "weird and random prizes" for games and challenges in my class.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Happiness
How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

It is so easy to get down on the state of our world right now.  For me, this practice will help me look for where people are doing good.  Last year I wrote my gratitude, and this year I will send notes of thanks or praise.  This is especially great as a teacher- it will help me strengthen relationships with other teachers, students, or whoever I am reaching out to.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

I teach my students all about climate science and every time I teach the unit, I stop eating meat for a while.  For me- meat has become just a habit.  When I don't eat it I don't tend to miss it too much.  I want to reduce my meat consumption further by trying to be completely vegetarian for the challenge.  When teach about the impacts of agriculture on our atmosphere and water resources, I always feel like I need to do more- and this is something I can definitely do

I’m trying to think about the holistic approach to sustainability. I have many environmental goals, but this year I have a lot more wellness related goals as well. Can’t wait to get going!
