  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How do your eating experiences differ when practicing mindfulness?

Mindful eating really helped me this month. I thought more about each bite I was taking and ate more slowly.  This is definitely better for digestion, and it helped me to stop when I was full rather than automatically finishing my whole plate.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Happiness
How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

Practicing gratitude this month allowed me to focus on the good things, even if they were little.  Sometimes it feels like everything is bad and gloom and doom, but picking up on all the little good things made life overall seem happier.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community Host A Watch Party
What did you learn about in the documentary you watched? How did it make you feel?

David Attenborough's documentary, A Life on Our Planet, really emphasized the environmental impact that our overpopulation of the planet has had.  Watching the videos of forests being cut down and replaced by oil palms was really disappointing.  Additionally, the clip of the seals falling off the cliff was devastating.  It really made me want to do more for the environment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Use Public Transit
The US spends roughly 20% of its federal budget on defense. In contrast, 2% goes to education, 20% goes to social security and just 3% goes to transportation infrastructure. Do these numbers surprise you at all? Why or why not? How would you adjust them if you could?

    Grace Pak's avatar
    Grace Pak 4/21/2022 7:31 PM
I personally think way too much money goes toward defense.  If more went toward transportation and infrastructure, we could make our country more sustainable.  Additionally, if we allotted the money to education, we could increase access to quality education.  Then (hopefully) more people would learn about the environmental impacts of their actions and how to improve them.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Power Down the Computer
What are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?

    Grace Pak's avatar
    Grace Pak 4/21/2022 7:24 PM
There are definitely more easy things I could be doing to reduce my footprint.  I want to continue to turn lights off and shut my laptop down.  I didn't realize how much of an impact it had just to leave your laptop not shut down even if it was off and not being used.  I also want to unplug more devices and lights so they are not taking energy while not being used.

Earth Day really snuck up on me this year!  I wish I would have had more time to complete more one time actions, but my goal is to continue them throughout the year.
