    Nature Support Local Pollinators
Why is it important to take care of pollinators?

It is important to take care of pollinators because they ensure healthy and adequate food production of crops and many other plants. They help maintain genetic diversity among plants and many ecosystems would vanish without the help of pollinators.

Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

I think for me the biggest barrier is forgetfulness, but having a backup water bottle already in the car defeats that.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

It does surprise a bit because that’s a big number of good food being thrown to waste. I believe I’d use the extra money for bills that need to be paid or healthier food that we could be eating. Never waste a food because there is so many people in need of a meal.  It’s devastating!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Whole Food Lifestyle
Michael Pollan states that “it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor.” What are your thoughts on this assertion?

I think this is true! I think that eating healthy to make my body better is better than letting my body get bad, and then worrying about it.

I used to buy several bottles of water a day to avoid having to pack my reusable water bottle and refill it throughout the day. Today, I made an effort to make my metal water bottle and seek out drinking fountains and refill stations rather than going to the dining hall to buy a new bottle.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Less Screen Time
What did you notice in implementing this challenge? Was it hard to choose other activities over screen time? How did you decide to spend your time?

I noticed that I was able to think more clearly while not using my phone or TV, instead of going on social media or watching TV, I read a book and did homework for an hour without using my phone or laptop.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Exercise Daily
How can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?

To incorporate other personal values into an exercising routine I workout with friends and go on nature runs/hikes with them. Pennsylvania is a beautiful place for this.

Practicing gratitude can keep you motivated to work for a better world by making you realize what makes you feel good as a person, and continuing to do those things, like helping other people.
